Communiqué adopted at NATO Warsaw summit expresses support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

The final communiqué has been adopted at NATO’s Warsaw summit at the level of heads of state and government.

In paragraph 24 of the communiqué NATO states express commitment in their support for the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. They also express support for efforts towards a peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the South Caucasus, based upon these principles and the norms of international law, the UN Charter, and the Helsinki Final Act.

Note that previous summits of NATO, including the NATO summit held in Wales in 2014, also had expressed support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, stressing that they support a settlement of the conflicts in the South Caucasus based upon these particular principles. They had held that use of force against territorial integrity or political independence of states or threatening by use of force is inadmissible and that internationally recognized borders of states must be respected.
